There are a few places that you can look when you are in need of auto parts. Some places can be a better choice than others, but this is not always true. What part that you are looking for has a lot to do with it. The basic idea is to get what you need in a good part with out spending more than you need to.
Where to get the parts that you need depends a lot on what the part is and the project that you are using it in as well as how much you are able to spend. Finding a part to fix or repair your car is different that a part that you need for building something new. Which ever way that you go one of the first things to do is to make a list of the parts that you need. Sometimes there is nothing worse than needing a part and coming home with something different because you got sidetracked.
Now that your list is made where do you go? Usually the best place to go is to the local junkyard. Junkyards usually are thought of as worn out old cars but just because the car is junked don’t mean that it doesn’t have like new or perfectly serviceable parts. After all most cars end up there because of a wreck, making them damaged cars. If you are looking for parts for an older car the junkyard may be your only choice.
Of course you would not want to get all of your parts there because of safety reasons. Some of the things that it might be better to buy new are tires, brakes, and most electrical components (but not necessarily all electrical parts).
Most new parts will also come with a better warranty than a used part, but most yard owners will replace a defective part if they believe that it was bad when you bought it.
All in all it is better to have the knowledge to now what parts that you are getting.
So as you can see the junkyard is not a bad place to start looking for those car parts that you need to put you back on the road.
