1970 Chevelle

1970 marked what is probably the peak of the muscle car era, with a newly redesigned Chevy Chevelle for 1970. The newly designed 70 Chevelle could be ordered with a whole host of options like front disc brakes, Polyglas F70x14 tires, dual stripes on the hood and deck lid, and six different engine options.

Although you could order a new Chevrolet Chevelle in 1970 with a 6 cylinder engine, it was the LS6 454 that turned the muscle car world upside down. The heart of the LS6 Chevelle was an all steel block 454 cubic inch engine with forged aluminum pistons producing 11.25:1 compression, solid lifters, four-bolt mains, forged steel crank and connecting rods, all topped off by an aluminum manifold and an 800 cfm Holley four barrel carburetor. This monster motor put out a whopping 450 hp @ 5600 rpm and 500 lb-ft @ 3600 rpm. This was enough power to put the 70 Chevelle LS6 well into the 13 second quarter mile range.
