This Daytona Yellow 69 Camaro caught my eye because of it’s yellow houndstooth interior that you don’t see very often.

Here is another great example of pairing up old muscle cars with today’s muscle cars. The owner of this 1967 Camaro RS/SS started with what was already a great car and swapped in the drive train of a 1996 Camaro Z28 that only had 6,000 miles on it. Then Fuel injected LT1 complete with air conditioning is mated up to the stock automatic transmission and a 12 bolt rear end with disk brakes.

Many muscle car owners have been getting away from drag strip inspired muscle cars and are turning to the more street friendly Pro touring cars. This 68 Camaro is a wonderful example of building a Pro Touring Muscle car without going overboard on expensive high tech items.

Like most cars that I come across on the internet this yellow 69 Yenko Camaro is not an actual Yenko Camaro but a fantastic recreation that is almost as good as the real thing. I guess in this world of high dollar muscle cars where a real 69 Yenko camaro is out of the price range of the average muscle car enthusiast, it is no wonder that muscle car recreations like this camaro keep popping up.

1967 Camaro SS

1967 was the first year that the Camaro was available to the public, and during that first year 34,411 Camaro SS were produced. During the initial run of these first generation Super Sports the bumblebee nose stripe was included standard as part of the Super Sport option package, but in March of 1967 Chevrolet decided to make the bumblebee stripe a separate option (RPO D91).

67 Camaro SS Body Styles

There were four different body styles available to chose from in 1967.

SS Coupe - was priced at between $2,783 to $3,072 depending on the options that were added.

SS Convertible - was priced at between $3,019 – $3,309 depending on the options that were added.

SS RS Coupe - was priced at between $2,888 – $3,177 depending on the options that were added.

SS RS Convertible - was priced at between $3,124 – $3,414 depending on the options that were added.

67 Camaro SS Engine Options

in September of 1966 when the Camaro SS was released to the public the only engine option that was available was a 350 cubic inch small block, but soon after that in November of that same year Chevrolet introduced the 396 cubic inch big block in three different horsepower ratings.

1968 Camaro SS

Styling did not change much from 1967 to 1968 with only a few small changes that included the addition of side marker lights, divided rear taillights, and a slightly pointer front grill. Also Chevrolet got rid of the side window windwings in 1968 that in my opinion was one of the best features of old cars. Production was about the same for the 1968 model year with 30,695 68 Camaro Super Sport produced.

Unlike the 67 Super Sport the 1968 model had two distinct hood depending on which engine your Super Sport came equipped with. If you ordered you car with the standard 350 cubic inch engine then your car came with the same hood that the 67 SS model came with, but if you opted for the SS 396 then your hood was slightly different and featured two inserts which each had four simulated carburetor stacks.

68 Camaro SS Body Styles

Just like in 1967 there were also four different body styles available to chose from in 1968.

SS Coupe - was priced at between $2,881 – $3,539 depending on the options that were added.

SS Convertible – was priced at between $3,119 – $3,777 depending on the options that were added.

68 Camaro SS Engine Options

The 1968 Camaro Super Sport had basically the same engine options as the previous year except for the addition of the L89 which included aluminum heads.

1969 Camaro SS

The 1969 Camaro Super Sport had drastic changes with Chevrolet almost completely restyling every panel of the car. Also for the first time Chevrolet offered the cowl induction hood as an option on the 69 Camaro SS.
The newly redesigned Camaro was a big hit this year and production numbers confirmed this with around 36,309 Super Sport Camaros produced.

The 67 Camaro was available in a two door coupe or a convertible. The 67 Camaro convertible was available in either the base model trim or the Super Sport package, but the 67 Camaro Coupe was available in either a base model, Ralley Sport, Super Sport, or the legendary Z28.

Also in 1967 the Camaro came with a wide variety of engine options. There was everything from an economical inline straight six cylinder engine to a 375 horsepower stump pulling 396 cubic inch big block Chevy motor! And for those lucky few people who had money to burn there were also several performance car dealers back in 1967 that would drop in a new 427 cubic inch Corvette motor.

1967 Camaro Ralley Sport

The 67 Camaro RS which in my opinion was cosmetically the best looking Camaro body style for this year. The 67 Camaro Ralley Sport package included several styling changes from the other Camaro packages by including a blacked out front grill and hidden headlights, revised parking lights that were dropped down below the front bumper, and tail lights, an upgraded interior trim package, and RS badges on the grill, fenders, and gas cap. Also the 1967 Camaro RS was the only year that the RS badges were in lower case letters.

1967 Camaro Super Sport

The 67 Camaro SS when first introduced came standard with a 350 cubic inch engine, which was the very first time that Chevrolet offered the 350 small block Chevy motor. Soon after production began though a 396 cubic inch big block Chevy motor was offered both in 325 horsepower and 375 horsepower versions.

The 67 Super Sport Camaro also features additional body styling like simulated air intakes on the hood, and special striping.

1967 Camaro Z-28

The 67 Camaro model year was not only the first year for the Chevy Camaro but also for the Camaro Z28 option. Although unlike all the Camaro Z28′s to come after the 67 model, this first release of the Camaro Z28 did not have any external identification or badges other than the large racing stripes on the hood and deck lid.

The 1967 Chevrolet Camaro Z28 was developed to race in the SCCA (Sports Car Club of America) Trans Am sedan racing series. The SCCA Trans Am series had a strict 305 cubic inch engine limit that Chevrolet was able to reach by taking a 327 cubic inch small block Chevy block and combine it with their smaller 283 cubic inch small block Chevy crankshaft. It was because of these rules that all Camaro’s purchased with the Z28 option came with the 302 cubic inch small block Chevy motor that produced 290 horsepower.

1967 Camaro Indianapolis Pace Car

The very first year that the Chevy Camaro was introduced to the public was also the first year that the Camaro paced the Indianapolis 500. There were three 1967 Camaro Pace cars built by Chevrolet for the 1967 Indianapolis 500. These three pace cars were white 67 Camaro RS/SS convertibles that had large decals on their doors that read “Chevrolet Camaro Official Pace Car 51st Annual Indianapolis 500 Mile Race – May 30, 1967″ These cars also came with bright blue interiors as well.

Chevrolet also built 78 identical 1967 Camaro RS/SS convertibles with the same door decals as the pace cars for complimentary use by race officials and dignitaries during the months before the race. Then after the 1967 Indianapolis 500 was over these replica 67 pace cars were sold off to the public as used cars.

67 Camaro Television Commercial

Check out this great 1967 television commercial of the Camaro being introduced to the general public for the first time. It is a great vintage commercial showing the 67 Chevy Camaro RS/SS coming out of an erupting volcano.

Putting all of the power that this 427 big block produces to the ground is a Turbo 400 transmission with a 2500 stall converter, and a 12 bolt posi rear end sporting 3.71 gears. If I lived next to the owner of this 1968 Camaro i would definitely be asking him for a ride! This car just looks so clean and straight with it’s Grotto Blue paint and black vinyl top. You can definitely tell that when this car was restored a few years ago that it was done right with a lot of attention paid to details.

Powering this Grotto Blue 68 Camaro is a General Motors Performance Parts crate motor that displaces 350 cubic inches even though the front fender badges read 327. Transferring the power from this 350 crate motor is a powerglide automatic transmission with a stock console shifter. This 68 Camaro also has a 10 bolt rear end sporting mild street gears, and 15 inch Rally wheels at all four corners.
